Welcome to the IUCN Green List journey in Marseille!
Below is the schedule of IUCN Green List events at the IUCN World Conservation Congress Marseille. All time indicated is in Central European Time (CET).
Get answers to everything you want to ask about the IUCN Green List Standard – the first global standard of best practice for area-based conservation.
This session will present an overview of the 17 criteria of the IUCN Green List Standard, and a quick summary of how it’s implemented from national to site level. Then there will be IUCN Green List experts available for questions and answers through an informal smaller group approach.
The session provides a guide to the IUCN Green List standard and program aimed at decision makers and practitioners. The elements of the Green List programme are examined, working through short introductory presentations followed by practitioner-led discussion tables around actual examples and participant issues. Topics covered include: 1 Overview of the Green List, 2 Implementing the Green List in a jurisdiction, 3 Anatomy of the Green List – the standard dissected and examined 4 Empowering local knowledge and expertise through Expert Assessment Groups (EAGL), 5 Good governance and equity and how they are assessed 6. Using IUCN knowledge products (e.g. PA Categories, Red List) in the Green List process. 7. Defining successful conservation outcomes – the definition of “successful conservation” and its application in the Green List, 8. Monitoring and setting thresholds – an analysis of approaches and case studies. A follow-up process will be used to address any outstanding questions.

The Blue Solutions facilitates learning processes among practitioners by bringing together solution seekers and solution providers, through the PANORAMA – Solutions for a Healthy Planet platform. We widen the dissemination of best practices, encouraging their upscale and adoption in new places, in order to accelerate impacts for sustainable development and nature conservation. In this session we’ll focus on the way peer-to-peer knowledge exchanges can build communities of practices, enhance mutual learning, and unlock challenges. After presenting our lessons learnt and insights from Blue Solutions activities, we would like to open the floor for a discussion on ideas and recommendations for strengthening processes to scale up.
